Oklahoma residents were rocked by the surge of serious storms that ripped through the Sooner state in late May and June of 2019. The high winds, an outbreak of tornadoes, and heavy rain led to record-breaking flooding. As the water levels were on the rise and Oklahoma residents were ordered to leave their homes, what would happen next has been all the minds of these property owners.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency, or FEMA, approved multiple counties for Individual Assistance. Individual Assistance can provide grants to homeowners and renters to help pay for temporary housing and home repairs.

If you need to file a claim with FEMA, time is running out. The deadline to apply for Disaster Assistance is July 31st. FEMA specialists will be at Lowe’s stores in Tulsa, Delaware, and Wagoner counties through July 27th to assist. Alternately, you can contact FEMA at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or by visiting www.disasterassistance.gov.

When registering, it is helpful to have the following information on hand:

  • The address of where the damage took place
  • Your current mailing address and phone number
  • Homeowner’s insurance information
  • Routing and account number for your bank account
  • Your total annual household income
  • A description of your damages and losses

In the aftermath of a disaster, you should file a claim with your insurance company as soon as possible. Many losses due to flooding are not covered by homeowners’ insurance policies. However, you should not wait for claim denial in order to file a claim with FEMA.

If you have filed a claim with your insurance company and it has been denied, call Jones Brown Law today at 918-574-6400. We handle Disaster Claim Insurance Denials and provide free consultations.
